Also a pretty sky, but hard to compare to the previous day.

Risotto so fancy that it's served in the pan it's cooked in.

September 22

Driving to a party proved to be the prettiest thing of the day, and the prettiest thing that I had seen in months, perhaps.

These were the two prettiest balloons there.

Smoked gruyere sandwich from Le Pain Quotidienne. Served with radishes, gherkins, mango, olives, sundried tomatoes, cucumber, fresh tomato, cantaloupe, and three mustards.

IMG_2042.JPG
Samantha photographs her own sandwich, curried chicken salad. And that is a bowl of coffee.

IMG_2043.JPG
When we drove past this guy the first time, he was dressed in full Darth Vader regalia, minus the helmet. When we swung past again to get a picture, he had taken his cloak off, but he did wave, so that counts for something.

Samantha's cat, Zadie.

Zadie is so cute.

And occasionally, looks oddly humanoid.

Driving home was a little less spectacular than the trip up.

IMG_2015.JPG
Fluffier though.

September 13

So Melissa and I are chilling at her home, talking about whatever people talk about, when she notices a sound that I had not been giving any thought to, because it sounded like sprinklers going off. She informed me, though, that they did not have sprinklers on her street. She looks out the window and gasps, and we go outside.

IMG_1983.JPG
Water gushing down the street!

IMG_1984.JPG
Water is seeping up through the cracks in the asphalt.

IMG_1985.JPG
A LOT of water.

IMG_1988.JPG
This side of the street had more gushing than the other side.

IMG_1989.JPG
First time I used flash in a long time. It served its purposes here.

IMG_1990.JPG
ZOOMGUSH.

IMG_1992.JPG
And around the bend.

IMG_1995.JPG
It was a truly astonishing amount of water.

IMG_1996.JPG
Water that was not only coming around the bend, but pouring down the side of the hill.

IMG_1998.JPG
And then there was the open pipe that was making the most noise and expelling the most water.

IMG_1999.JPG
Massive amounts of water.

IMG_2002.JPG
Onto the main street even!

IMG_2005.JPG
All this from a burst water main.

IMG_2010.JPG
It ended up getting fixed the next day.

IMG_2011.JPG
But not before thoroughly soaking the neighborhood.
